Apple iPod nano 4 GB

By Randall

I have been reeling over when to buy a new ipod for a long time now. I have a 3rd generation 10gb ipod that I got for Xmas in '03 and it was immediately filled to the brim with music. I have probably used the thing every day since I've had it but the battery isn't what it used to be and I have to charge the thing for a good hour and a half during my work day just so I can listen to it for the last few hours. This has become an inconvenience for me considering that my job is extremely boring and the workplace is fairly loud and I find myself getting easily frustrated without music.

The new nano commercial certainly is flashy and very persuasive. I want to point out that the click wheel does not glow up at all-I think that Apple falsely advertises that it does and that they should look into changing this misrepresentation. I am sure that they did this in the commercial for a greater effect but I can bet that people who haven't seen it in person and purchase this item online will be a little disappointed when receiving it.

if you're going to get a nano- get the 4GB!!!! I'm probably going to give my 2GB to a friend and buy the 4GB... 500 songs is really not enough... plus- i had to delete the entire song directory just so i could download some applications from a friends computer. if you plan on using the nano for data storage and music- get the 4GB!!!!

SENUTI- google it- i didn't realize til last week that you couldn't transfer music FROM the ipod nano TO your computer. This program is freeware- and works perfectly for transfering music files. using the nano with Tiger is just one step easier for syncing your ical and contacts- but i still don't think its necessary to run tiger with your nano.

The nano itself... I would say that I wasn't all that impressed at first sight of the nano, it looked different than the previous nano and very similar to the mini which I thought looked silly. My impression has totally changed considering the fact that I haven't been able to put the thing down since I got it last week. I can't stop holding it and marveling at how compact, light and sturdy it is (compared to the previous model). The screen is colorful and bright and I am happy with the resolution of the photos (albeit on a really small screen). The new headphones are an improvement since the previous ones didn't fit in my ears too well. I haven't noticed much of an improvement regarding the sound quality but I am extremely satisfied since these are more comfortable in the ears than the previous model, the cord is longer, and they also will not wind up together since they are separated by a handy little piece of rubber that you can adjust to your preference.

Some small gripes...I have noticed that the games tend to slow down at times, not really a big deal since these games get boring within the first 2 minutes of playing them. Transitioning from one screen to another isn't as smooth as on the other models--probably due to the fact that the nano is flash drive based. The click wheel isn't the most stable and certainly takes some getting used to. I have noticed that turning the backlight on and off isn't as easy as it used to be. On my older Ipod all I needed to do was to hold down the Menu button for a few seconds for the backlight to turn on. It isn't possible to do that anymore so you have to make sure that the backlight settings are turned on. I also would like to say that my previous model came with a white plug that you can put into the data outlet to protect the outlet from dust and other hazardous circumstances. I think that the little piece of plastic is essential to the life cycle of the ipod and it should be included with every Ipod model.

All in all I couldn't be more pleased with this item. I would definitely advise you to purchase a case that would shield the nano from everyday hazards. The new anodized aluminum casing should protect this item better than the previous models which were easily scratched. I will probably purchase a case from Otterbox when it becomes available because it appears that it will be the best protection available for this fragile investment.
Hopefully I won't regret not getting the larger storage model but as of right now I am 100 percent satisfied with my new ipod 4gb nano. It has all that you really need in an mp3 player.

iPod Silicon Skin

This is a good, inexpensive and required set wherefore your new iPod ( mine is the video, 30gb model ). The select contains clear sticky pieces to place on the primary, back and dial of your iPod, a silicon skin and a wrap so your arm if you same to wear it while exercising. The sticky sheets must be put up on slowly and on a veritable clean surface. Wipe your iPod off and try not to leave any lint or dust ( which will cause air pockets ), taking the primary sticky piece ( which has the center cut - out ) peel off the backing and start at the top corner of the iPod and smooth it across the prime, trying to push out any bubbles that may appear. If you need to lift the sheet off, any bending of the corner will cause the plastic to stay bent so try to do it right the first off time. After smoothing out the bubbles, it will continue to settle and look pretty transparent. I didn ' t use the dial covering piece since the silicon will
cover that area. After you do one piece, you ' ve got the knack then the other piece / s. The silicon stretches nicely and snugly, but doesn ' t look that great when humidity causes it to stick to areas of the iPod. I found that adding a Veritable light dusting of talc to the interior of the silicon skin before stretching it on, keeps the silicon from sticking to the iPod and the color of the silicon skin appears pretty even looking. The scratch still stays on the iPod, protecting it from scratches. The armband is nice and slips through a slot in the back of the silicon scratch but it isn ' t a very same tight or secure fit because of the weight of the iPod and the lightness of the scratch and, if you ' re running, I would imagine that the iPod could still slip out of the silicon scratch, especially the top which has less of the silicon cover because of the screen area. I ' m still able to charge it with the skin on, using my USB cable. For a first - time iPod user ( like myself ), this is an adequate and inexpensive accessory which will show you to what you would look for in the future, when you want to pay more for iPod protection.

Awesome Ipod

I have had varied Ipods and was debating whether to upgrade to an ITouch or just get a Classic. I am glad I picked Classic. This is definitely a big improvement from the 5th procreation. Love it, love it, love it. Love the space and transfer is lightning fast. Much much better. If ITouch comes in 80GB, I would probably get it. But its new technologies do not make it as good a PDA as a Palm TX, unfortunately ( I ' m talking about professional software, not pretty but empty applications ). My old cable doesn ' t work with this new Classic. But no biggie, it comes with its own cable anyway. Too bad it doesn ' t come with earbud covers more a soft cover. Still, everything else has improved.. contacts, alarm, calendar, etc... things that I don ' t care about. But nice to grab them improved. I might actually get to use them. Five + stars!

Ipod Classic Reviews

Apple iPod classic

80 GB Black (6th Generation)

This is my third iPod. My first iPod was a 4G 40GB, my second was a 5G 60GB.

When I upgraded from the 4G to 5G it was a big improvement. I absolutely loved the new features such as color, photos, video, album art, etc...

Unfortunately my upgrade to the 80GB iPod `Classic' has been nothing but a big disappointment. When I heard Apple was about to release a new line of iPods I sold my 5G and was eagerly awaiting Jobs' keynote. First I must admit I was very disappointed they didn't release a high capacity `Touch'... I mean really disappointed... Although I strongly desire all the amazing features of the `Touch ' such as WiFi and the fullscreen touch screen, my first requirement would be enough capacity to hold my entire 63 GB music library. I settled for the 80GB `Classic' since I was iPodless.

My first reaction with the iPod `Classic' was that it looked like a much sexier 5G iPod. This 80GB unit was noticeably thinner. The brushed aluminum front looked really great too. Unfortunately it was all downhill from there:

* The `Classic' does not come with the little sleeve case that 5G's came with.
* The screen is slightly lower than the brushed metal front and I am concerned it will begin to collect dust around the edges.
* The click wheel is HORRIBLE (what the hell happened) it completely lacks response and sensitivity. My 5G 60GB was so easy to navigate and after over a week of using my new `Classic' I find it the biggest pain to navigate. For this reason alone I wish I had my old 60GB 5G back.
* Coverflow... I was really looking forward to this feature. I make a lot of effort to maintain my music library and I'd say 95%+ of my music has cover art. Unfortunately the coverflow is so slow and laggy that it renders the feature completely gimmicky and not functional. When I flow through albums all I see are "question mark albums" and it takes a few seconds for the actual album covers to replace the "question mark albums".
* Another big disappointment is that you are no longer able to view album covers full screen as you are playing a song. (You used to be able to do this by clicking the middle button a few times when playing a song)...
* Also overall I find the GUI pretty slow when browsing my library... Sometimes it takes a few seconds to view the next layer of navigation when you push the button.
* I think Apple added some cool visual aspects to the GUI like animation in between menus etc.... Unfortunately these are sometimes choppy making me wish I just had the simple less-fancy old menus back.
* My iPod has frozen a few times. Sometimes I can scroll through the main menu but when I actually click on something (such as Music, Podcasts, or Extras) nothing actually happens...
